Constructed in 1920, this historic building served as the former headquarters of the Newton Daily News and remains a key part of the Newton Downtown Historic District. The 12,000-square-foot, two-story brick structure includes office space, a warehouse, and a 7,280-square-foot basement in a prime downtown location. Designed in the Classical Revival style, the building features a rectangular form, flat roof, raised main level, and decorative poured concrete accents on the entry surround, windowsills, and roofline coping.
Windows along the south and west facades provide abundant natural light to both levels. The building has been modified over time to support Newton’s evolving communications industry, including interior alterations in 1962, a concrete block addition in 1969, and an annex added in 1984 for the Jasper County Advertiser. In 2005, artist Carl Homstad painted the Newton Printshop mural on the east wall.
The building stands as a lasting symbol of Newton’s architectural and media history.
